I was talking with a new product partner today who manufactures a protein shake mix that’s distributed in CrossFit gyms across the US. They have recently reformulated their recipes to meet their customers’ demand for hemp rather than whey protein.
The reasons behind this recipe rework seemed obvious to me because I know the benefits of hemp, but what I didn’t know is why these customers are turning away from whey?
I searched YouTube for “hemp vs. whey protein” and found a video from TrueGritProductions where Pat RIOT explains that whey protein has always left him feeling bloated, drowsy and caused increased mucus production. Whey is dairy based and often comes from cows bred in “factory farms”. Most fitness experts agree that lowering your dairy intake can do wonders for your waistline. Not to mention, this protein option precludes vegans from partaking.
Pat RIOT is now on the hemp-train. His favorite is Sunwarrior’s Raw Vegan Protein because it’s 100% plant-based.
An interview with Benjamin Artz on BlytheNaturalLiving.com adds further justification for why hemp is the new preferred protein. Artz, a personal trainer, coach and fitness mentor stays away from soy and whey, explaining that hemp absorbs well for digestion, allows for a quicker recovery and alkalizes the blood with chlorophyll.
So if you’re lactose intolerant, vegan or just want a better protein option – the answer is HEMP. Our favorite hemp powders right now come from Be. Nourished, Ergogenics Nutrition, Onnit’s Hemp Force, Super Green Hemp and Manitoba Harvest, .
